  4. You must be using version 1.03 of the Windows
  5. operating environment.  This is the version bundled
  6. with PageMaker during the first 90 days of
  7. PageMaker's shipping.  Using an earlier version
  8. will interfere with text justification and kerning,
  9. and may cause other problems.
  10.  
  11. If you have questions or problems with the files
  12. included on this disk, contact Aldus Technical
  13. Support at (206) 628-2320.  Hours are 7 a.m. to 6
  14. p.m., Pacific Standard Time.  Be sure to have
  15. either your PageMaker serial number or your Service
  16. Contract number handy when you call.  It will also
  17. help if you call from a phone beside your computer.

  19. ADDING UPDATED PRINTER DRIVERS TO YOUR SYSTEM
  20.  
  21. 1.  Start Windows.  If you installed PageMaker 
  22. with the run-time version of Windows, type PM, 
  23. then press the Enter key to start Windows and 
  24. PageMaker.  If you installed the retail version 
  25. of Windows, type WIN, then press the Enter key 
  26. to go to the MS-DOS Executive. The MS-DOS
  27. Executive is a window that gives you access to 
  28. DOS commands, as well as to applications and files, 
  29. from within the Windows operating environment.

  31. 2.  Start the program CONTROL.EXE. If you are 
  32. running PageMaker with the run-time version of 
  33. Windows, choose the "Control Panel" command 
  34. from PageMaker's System menu. The System menu is 
  35. the small striped box in the upper-left corner 
  36. of your screen.  Position the mouse pointer
  37. on the box, then drag the mouse down until the
  38. command "Control Panel" is highlighted. When you
  39. release the mouse button, Windows displays the
  40. Control Panel.

  42.      If you are running the MS-DOS Executive in
  43. Windows, position the mouse pointer on the program,
  44. CONTROL.EXE, and double-click the mouse button
  45. (press it twice in rapid succession).  Windows
  46. displays the Control Panel.

  48. 3.  Delete the existing installed PostScript and/or
  49. PCL (HP) printer drivers, using the "Delete
  50. Printer" command from the Installation menu.

  52. 4.  Use the "Add new printer..." command from the
  53. Installation menu to install the updated drivers
  54. into Windows.  When it asks if you want to copy the
  55. drivers to Windows' directory, say "yes".   Add
  56. either or both of the printer drivers HPPCL.DRV and
  57. PSCRIPT.DRV to your system.

  59. 5.  Select the "Connections" command from the Setup
  60. menu, and indicate which printers are connected to
  61. which ports.  For any printer connected to a serial
  62. port, also use the "Communications Port..." command
  63. to specify communications settings.  If you wish
  64. one of the printers to be the Windows default
  65. printer, specify this using the "Printer" command
  66. from the Setup menu.
